Abstract:

This descriptive-correlational study assessed the awareness, experience, and prospects for development of museums in Iloilo City as assessed by two hundred twenty-two (222) Tourism Management students utilizing purposive sampling. Frequency, percentage, mean, rank, and standard deviation were used in the descriptive analyses, while the Mann-Whitney U Test, the Kruskal-Wallis Test, the Test for Multiple Comparisons, and the Spearman Rho were employed as inferential statistical tools with the significance level set at .05 alpha. Results revealed that the assessment of the level of awareness, level of experience, and degree of prospects for development was moderately aware, very good experience, and highly viable, respectively. This study’s results showed no significant differences in the level of awareness, level of experience, and degree of prospects for development when they were classified according to sex, place of residence, purpose of visit, and average family monthly income. However, there are significant differences in the level of experience and degree of prospects for development when classified according to year level, similarly, in the degree of prospects for development when classified according to frequency of visit. Lastly, a very weak positive correlation and no significant relationship exists between awareness and experience likewise in awareness and prospects for development while a strong positive correlation and substantial relationship exists between experience and prospects for development of museums in Iloilo City.
